This is ridiculous. We're still not up (down?) to Vietnamese standards, but the stability of the power supply here is beyond bad. We lost power this afternoon at 12.30 pm for what is at least the fourth time this year. I can recall possibly three or four power outages in Denmark in my entire lifetime..
There's a running joke in Denmark regarding the national railway company DSB. Every year in the summer the trains have to slow down because of "sun curves": the rails expand in the summer heat and because of a lack of maintenance of the rails this causes problems. In the fall the trains have to slow down because the leaves from the trees turn into a slippery soapy substance on the rails. In the winter, the trains have major problems for the first couple of days of snow. Every single year, it's like the changing seasons come as a complete surprise.
SCE seems to have a certain number of similarities to DSB besides a TLA. In the summer, the power goes out because of the strain on the power distribution network when everybody turns on their air conditioners (a lot of people use a lot of a/c when it's hot outside? who knew!). In the winter the power apparently goes out because it gets windy.
A bitter power consumer in Southern California..
